Microsoft vision vs Ignite sessions

Microsoft will be hosting the Ignite Conference in Chicago from May 4th to 8th. Sessions for the Ignite were announced earlier this week, some of the topics are based on what customers want to hear. Last year Microsoft ran a survey (Call for topics) to find out what were the topics of interest for the attendees.

A conference is a great place to position your vision/strategy. I am sure that the selection of the topics/sessions are also based on Microsoft vision and strategy.

I did a few search on the conference site to have a look at the number of sessions that were available for some specific topics to analyse/confirm Microsoft strategy.

There are 618 sessions listed targeted to the following audiences and products.

Not all products are shown

Note: Number of sessions per product are different in this table and in my results. My results are based on search on key work.

There is nothing scientific here but based on the searches that I have done, out of the 618 available sessions, I can clearly see that the “Mobile First, Cloud first” strategy will be followed by the Ignite sessions with more than half the sessions (312) about Cloud. There are 183 sessions about Office 365 and 145 sessions about Azure. (Cloud includes most of the Office 365 and Azure Sessions).

Based out of the topics that I have searched, Windows (166 sessions) and Office (151 sessions which includes some Office 365 sessions) are also be in the top topics covered at the conference. Windows 10 (69 sessions) will probably be very popular.

It’s interesting to see that there are 79 sessions about SharePoint (I have found 4 sessions on SharePoint 2016). This confirms that SharePoint is still an important product for Microsoft and the IT world.

We can also see that Security (58 sessions) and Compliance (48 Sessions) are also very important topics. This makes a lot of sense because some corporation are still resisting to the move to the cloud because of security reasons. If ITPros know more about security and compliance there are more chances that they will move to the cloud.

Here is a breakdown of number of sessions for some of the topics that I have searched for, you can click on the links to have more details on the sessions that are available.

Important: I only did quick search on topics of interest for me, there are many more topics that will be covered at the Ignite conference.
